Marcelo was born in Palermo, Sicily. In his adolescence he was influenced by the Beatles, James Taylor and Genesis. Since his 20's he's acquired a passion for Bossanova, and his favorite artists Antonio Carlos Jobim and Vinicius de Morales who have influenced his artistic development. He also loves Pat Metheny, Pedro Aznar, John McLaughlin and Stevie Wonder.

Marcelo has a great passion for the environment and downtrodden, and he attempts to incorporate this into his work. He believes in the universal soul and that everything one does in life has meaning, that people shouldn't focus their lives in the pursuit of money but in helping others.

In 2006, Marcelo toured Latin America, mostly in Argentina, performing songs from his album "Marcelo Janni Sings His Sicily," a work of traditional Sicilian songs reinterpreted in a Bossanova Flamenco key to return to the original sound of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies.
