The show started out in 1991 as a five-part miniseries simply titled "Dark Water". Later that year, eight additional episodes were aired. The ratings weren't high, but the producers fought as valiantly as Ren himself to keep the series afloat, and eight more episodes were produced for 1992/1993. After that, the series was cancelled, leaving the adventure unfinished... but not forgotten. ("Always the Quest!")
