By the time this came out, Seventh Avenue had changed line-up four times since the AVI days of "Midnight In Manhattan". They were the first "Boyband" ever to present a sexy, somewhat homoerotic image. "The Love I Lost" was a major release in the USA, on Atlantic records, and very big on the Billboard dance charts, so it was decided by my colleagues, particularly Paul Tams, against my better judgement, to tone down the sexy image and make a more wholesome video. The problem is it never got edited, and although shot in 1987, it was just left in pieces, till I put it back together in 1999. It's not wonderful by any means, but the song was a biggie, so I went to all the trouble of tracking down all the footage that was originally shot. It goes without saying that the record was a hit High Energy version of the old disco classic by Harold Melvin And The Blue Notes

It always bothered me that, despite having shot a video for "Caught In The Act" for Record Shack, that all the footage got lost. This is the only surviving video of Earlene Bentley, outrageous New York Diva, and best friend of Miquel Brown. Earlene's first song for Record Shack, "The Boys Come To Town" was featured in the movie "Police Academy". But "Point Of No Return" sees her in much more mellow soulful form.

This was Sharon's first record, a minor hit on Arista Records, and a big favourite of Tony Blackburn's when it was released in 1986. She was discovered by my friend and protege Damon Rochfort, and together they went on to create Nomad, selling over a million singles with "Devotion". Then Sharon starred in the London musical of The Lion King, before landing a major acting role in the BBC series, Holby City, which she still stars in right up to this day.

Another of the 1980s Record Shack classics that people most remember. This song, "Vanity"
Another of the 1980s Record Shack classics that people most remember. This song, "Vanity" was originally recorded by Barbara Pennington, who didn't want to release it, because she was determined to get away from High Energy and back to real soul, so we recorded it on Carol, and released it as a single on the Record Shack label. Carol was an outrageous, larger than life, African singer, who moved to Montreal and had a huge hit with "Hit And Run Lover". For those who love facts and minutae, her real name is Uchena Ikejiani. She then moved to England and signed to Record Shack to record "Vanity". After that I got her a deal with MCA records, and we released "Such A Joy Honey". Her next song, "Turning My Back And Walking Away", was to have been her second single for MCA, and was indeed recorded for them. But my old friend there, Dave Ambrose, left the company and Carol was dropped, and rather than be forced to release the single, they gave it back to us, so I rushed it out on the Nightmare Records label. After that, we ended up doing a whole album, "The Best Of Carol Jiani" for Hot Records in Miami, and we re-recorded "Hit And Run Lover" as well as a great version of the Dells' old soul classic, "Make Sure You Have Someone Who Loves You". Carol is a true Diva, she is still performing to this day, and we just made a brand new recording together, a version of France Joli's "Come To Me". But here's her one release on the Record Shack label, the classic "Vanity".

Song from 1986 by American disco/soul/funk singer Nicole. Full name is Nicole McCloud. She was born in Rochester, New York on January 1, 1960. For her first single release she moved to Florida to record this song, which was a major success in all the charts worldwide. Her debut album "What about me" did pretty well also. It included a duet with Timmy Thomas, called "New York eyes", which was the follow-up of "Don't you want my love", but was only a hit in USA. Other singles never made it to the charts, but she's still performing and recording. This is an original performance on a Dutch chart show....
